The Night Lights Run by Sommersault Events
Tonight saw the end of my 2016 season for 10K racing.
Fittingly for me it was at night. The Night Lights Run pulled together by Sommersault Events in just a few weeks included a 1K for kids and 5K / 10K runs around a 2.5K loop at the Centre de formation professionnelle de l'Outaouais in Gatineau, Quebec.
It wasn't a big event there were just over a hundred runners in all the three races but it was well organized by the Sommersault team with Sportstats timing and chilli and deserts served after the races during the award presentations. I think there is a lot of potential to grow the race next year, running a race at night is a fun experience.
The course loop was almost perfect with one awkward hairpin turnaround that I wish wasn't there and while generally flat there were eleven speed bumps in the road. While not a big obstacle they were a bit hidden in the dark. It would have been neat if these were painted in a reflective or glowing colour for the night for safety and to extend the theme of the night to the full course.
It was nicely peaceful and pretty night as I ran alone in sections of the course through the trees on either side. I think I'd return to run the same course and race next year. I run a lot at night and it was a really nice change to run at night and get a medal for the effort.
I placed 6th overall in the 10K with a time of 47.21, I did get a first place for my age category but I was also the only one in it. Thanks to Dustin (@26,2orbust) for the company over to the race and for the finish line photo.
