Altra Escalante Review

Altra Escalante Review

The Altra Escalante is probably the best shoe that Altra has created yet. A super comfortable stretchy knit upper that has Altra's unique foot shape for an impressive amount of toe room. A very flexible shoe that fits true to size with a new Ego foam mid-sole that allows you to go long and slow or when you need as fast as you can manage. I ran my best half-marathon PR so far in this shoe. This is a zero drop show with 25mm cushion front and back that still feels low to the ground.

There is almost no support with a thick but soft heel cup and an upper that wraps nicely to the foot but does not offer a lot of structure and can get a bit warm. Going forward in a straight line isn't an issue but moving side to side or going around turns you will potentially slide right off the platform. Durability is good with the harder rubber of the out-sole holding up very well after a couple of hundred kilometers. Likely a modern classic in the making and if you can manage the zero drop worth having in your collection if only for the awesome footprints it leaves behind.

Score: 85/100
